About Alako
'Made in Africa' presents many opportunities but also poses significant challenges as we honor a production culture that predates the fast-paced demands of modern fashion.
We rely on the deep knowledge and time-honored traditions of our makers to inform our design process, ensuring that West African heritage is preserved in every piece we create. As part of this commitment, all fabrics and prints used in our garments are custom-designed in-house.
We are committed to ethical and sustainable practices, taking a mindful approach to fabric and garment production. We produce in limited quantities to minimize waste.
Our fabric production exclusively uses eco-friendly dyes, such as natural indigo, and we print on premium cotton, primarily sourced from Africa. Additionally, our packaging is made in the USA from 100% FSC-certified recycled materials and is fully compostable, breaking down completely within 180 days.
We source all materials from various regions across Africa and the world, ensuring quality and cultural authenticity in every piece.

Orders & Shipping
Please allow 1–3 business days for us to process your order. Once shipped, delivery times depend on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout.
U.S Orders: Standard ground shipping usually arrives within 1–5 business days.
International Orders: Delivery times vary by country but typically take 7–14 business days. Customs processing may cause delays, depending on your local regulations.
You’ll receive a tracking link as soon as your order ships.
Rates vary and are calculated at checkout. The total at checkout includes all applicable customs duties and taxes, so you won’t face additional charges upon delivery.
We ship to most countries worldwide, including Canada, the UK, Europe, Australia, and select regions across Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean.

We do not ship to PO Boxes.
Returns & Refunds
To initiate a return, please email us at orders@alako.com. All returns must be listed on your packing slip. Unauthorized returns will be refused or returned to sender.
To be eligible for a return, items must be in their original condition: unworn, unaltered, unused, with all tags attached, and returned in the original packaging. You have 14 days from the date of delivery to request a return.
A $10 restocking fee will be deducted from your refund. This helps cover return shipping, inspection, steaming, and careful repackaging.
At this time, we are unable to process exchanges. If you'd like a different item or size, please place a new order and return the original by contacting us at orders@alako.com.

Please allow up to 7 business days from the time your return is received for your refund to be processed. Shipping fees are non-refundable.
If your order arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, please contact us immediately at orders@alako.com. Include a brief description along with photos or a short video of the issue. If approved, we’ll arrange a replacement or full refund.
Sale items and gift cards are final sale and cannot be returned or exchanged.
Sample sale purchases are final sale and sold as is — no returns or exchanges will be accepted.
Returns & Refunds
We accept all major credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. You can also check out using PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Shop Pay.
All orders are processed in U.S. Dollars (USD). For international customers, your bank or payment provider will handle the currency conversion.
New customers receive a 10% discount code upon subscribing to our newsletter. If you haven’t received your code, please contact us at info@alako.com. This code applies only to full-priced items and cannot be combined with other discounts.
Gift Cards
Gift cards can be purchased directly on the Alako website here.
Once purchased, a unique code will be emailed to the address entered at checkout. To redeem, enter the code in the ‘gift card or discount code’ box at checkout and click apply. Gift cards cannot be used with promotions or discount codes.
Gift cards purchased on the Alako website are issued in U.S. Dollars (USD) and can only be redeemed on alako.com.
Gift cards are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase.
If you lose your gift card code, email orders@alako.com with the purchaser’s name, initial gift card value, purchase date, and expiration date. Please note that Alako is not responsible for lost or stolen gift cards.
Care & Sizing
To preserve your garment’s quality and longevity:
- Wash on a delicate cycle to maintain color, shape, and structure.
- Use environmentally friendly detergents and avoid bleach.
- Tumble dry on low heat and use a low iron if needed.
We offer a size range from XS to XL. Specific sizing details are provided in our Size Guide.
